Improving hotel employee performance using SQ™.
Solutions
A hotel consortium study was conducted with 400 hourly employees across 28 hotel properties. SQ™ assessment scores and supervisory ratings were collected to determine the predictive relationship between the SQ™ and on-the-job performance of front of house, back of house, and team leader hotel employees.
Results
Hotel employees who were rated as strong performers by their supervisors scored statistically higher on the SQ™, while employees who were rated as average or below average performers scored statistically lower on the SQ™. A predictive relationship was found among the following performance areas: Reliability, Positive Work Attitude, Enjoys Working with People, Getting the Work Done (see figure), and Overall Performance. Thus, using the SQ™ to make hiring decisions is an effective strategy for hotel companies to improve the caliber of performance among front of house, back of house, and team leader employees.
